** I agree with Becoming Me, it's a shame that there is a little bit of polictical agenda in this film too.**
I was just telling my friend last week that it is scary to hear the things that Oprah Winfrey says on her show. It is all about being self sufficient, not needing anyone else. Well I think it's come over the edge for me, and although as I stated in my disclaimer I am entitled to my own opinion I will not tell you what I told my friend the other day...except that Oprah reminds me so much of how close the time of the Lord's second coming is approaching! (To put it nicely)
It breaks my heart to see so many OPENLY "following" her, her beliefs and embracing them and yet there are so many that are daily rejecting the Truth, Jesus Christ.
Watch this video before YouTube deletes it. Apparantly it's already been deleted from another site or two.

Great post. Even greater topic for discussion. If everyone can keep the comments respectful, this could be an incredible discussion and learning opportunity.
I do welcome debate here, as long as it is nice. That is fine.
TO START A DEBATE OR CONVERSTAION:
One thing I noticed in the video is that Oprah emphasized that her "turning point" away from God [in my own words] was when she heard a preacher say that God was a jealous God. If you listen to her wording Oprah makes it sound like God is actually jealous of US, like our accomplishments and lives. When in reality I believe the Bible teaches God is a jealous God, because there are NO OTHER GOds but Him, and that we live our lives putting other "gods" before him each day.
I also found it interesting when she and the book author were talking and the author said that "the Bible says we are the light of the world..." I most certainly do not believe that is said. I remember the scriptures saying "I (Jesus Christ) am the light of the world". The only other thing he could be referring to is the "city on a hill" scripture.....
Anyway, there is a start to some thoughts there...
I, too, am saddened by this all out following of her. I watched the video a few days ago on YouTube.
As far as the light of the world thing, I agree with you. We are the SALT of the world, but Jesus is the Light.
Would you be able to send me the url to the video? I can't see it on your blog. Thanks!
I thought the exact same thing when she spoke of God as a jealous God. She was trying to portray Him as jealous of us - Can you imagine? God, jealous of us?!
That is what struck me too. (Her saying that God is jealous OF us) Also the comments about God being a feeling and that there are many paths to heaven. Scary. This is definitely a time for prayer!
i could say or explain a lot of things, but i think you'll understand me completely if i say- I COMPLETELY agree with you about Oprah, i have said exactly the same kinds of things about oprah, and i totally understand what you mean. she embodies much of what is turning this country further from God- embracing spirituality, which people are attracted to, but it's not truth, so satan doesn't fight against it, because it's still keeping people in the dark- so it flourishes. agh. people can get really offended if you say something bad about O, bc she does so much "good". i'm proud of you for saying what was on your mind! ok, i'll stop talking- but i agree with you!!!!
I think people get sidetracked from the real issue at hand because let's face it - Oprah has done a lot of good. She really has, but people mistake that goodness with spirituality and although as christians and believers we are called to be kind and loving and help people in need - that goodness alone does not make a christian or a personal relationship with God. Does that make sense?
Yes, that totally makes sense Pam. You're right, people get distorted views because of all the good Oprah does, and people get fed up with the "doctrines" being told to them without explanations of what it actually means, and instead of studying this further they seek more popular misguided, misinterpretations such as the one Oprah is presenting. She relates to many people by saying this doctrine stuff doesn't make any sense, so here's what I choose to believe instead...because she's only reading at surface level, that's why she doesn't really get it. You can't just pull little phrases randomly out of the Bible without studying the context in which it was written and expect to have the correct interpretation of what it means.
Distybug- Thanks for correcting me on the salt of the world/light of the world. I'm sleep deprived! I appreciate that.
Erna- I emailed you the link.
Ris- I agree. God is NOT a feeling. He is a real being and you can have a relationship with Him. I believe there is nothing we can do but pray.
Megan- You put it great. Oprah is embracing spirituality but not the Truth; therefore Satan doesn't attack against her.
Pam- Even going further. The reason people get mad when you say bad things about Oprah is because the WORDLD (non christians) do not realize that being GOOD is NOT what gets us into heaven. Society in general does not understand that as humans we could never be good enough to get into heaven. Therefore they probably think Oprah is a "christian", because she is a good person, and therefore they hang on her every word....
Karen- You are right on. Because Oprah is at surface level she could not begin to understand the real issue. Exactly right.
I do not think I can even come up with the words to say how much this upsets me. I had never seen one of her shows on the Good Earth and this is shocking. Thank you so much for sharing this!
It is very upsetting, especially since I think Oprah knew the TRUTH. And she does have a good heart. I will say I don't like how the video was made. It seems like it is as much as an anti Obama political ad in disguise. I'm not for Obama, but I think the video is a little sneaky in nature. But I do think that Oprah is doing a lot of damage now.
Kelsey- Glad that you saw it since you had no idea.
Becoming Me- I do agree with you. I wish it were not linked to any political stuff. I guess I could search YouTube to see if I can find one without....
I wanted to chime in on the "salt and light" issue. I'll let the Scripture speak for itself:
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:13-16
There's a big difference between light and Light, if you know what I mean. Based on the entire video I believe that she is in error about our role as light like she is in error on a lot of other things. Our being light is simply a reflection of The Light not a replacement for it! We connot be light apart from Him just like the moon has no light apart from the sun.
Thanks for sharing the video
Cindee- I love the way you explained this with such clarity. Thank you so much for chiming in, you added quite a bit to this discussion. Great points!
This was a fabulous discussion! I have nothing else to add, I just really enjoyed the perspectives of so many believers from so many different backgrounds. I am grieved by those who follow O blindly, and I am sad for the state of her soul. And I'm glad to hear this group of believers agreeing that she needs our prayers for true light and truth to make its way to her heart!
I have viewed the video and I have watched Oprah's program on several occassions. I have to say that I am saddened by her recent admission. Oprah is in a position to do so much for the Lord and for her viewers, but she has chosen to side with the 'in crowd' of the entertainment world and basically turn her back on Jesus Christ and the truth.
Without God, we are just a pile of dirt!
For years she has been 'noncommital' concerning her religious beliefs, and played the 'mugwump' as my mother would put it. (sitting on the fence with her mug on one side and her wump on the other) meaning that she leaned to each side of the discussion, in order to please each persuasion of her audiences, but she never made a plain statement concerning exactly what she believed, until just recently.
I could take this discussion in several different directions but there is only one that matters and that is the simple fact that
OPRAH NEEDS OUR PRAYERS.
It isn't too late for her to learn the truth, and enlighten her followers. Just imagine what an impact this would have.
So this is my hope, that everyone who reads this will remember the power of prayer and hold this woman up to the Lord Jesus that she will be led to the truth and dismiss her erroneous beliefs.
Thank you for letting me have my say.
I definately agree that Oprah has completely missed the point. God is much, much greater than we could ever imagine being, so why would he possibly be jealous of us?
A way to interpret God as a jealous God is to consider a bride and groom, the groom is jealous over his bride, jealous of any other man who would have her attention because she belongs to him and nobody else. God is a jealous God because we belong to him, and yet we put things before him.
Well, I think it's all been said here! Sorry I'm late for this great discussion.
I follow a blog/website called From the Lighthouse. It covers lots of excellent information about false religions, including Oprah's New Age beliefs. If you have a minute, check it out.

Just popping in off the family friendly roll. I really appreciate this post about Oprah! I have not been able to watch her for a number of years without feeling a bit icky. Do you mind a link to this post in my blog?
Another reason why I don't watch her!!
What is sad is she has such a strong platform and many people do believe her.
I really liked your post. In my humble opinion, Oprah is very misguided. She is obviously searching for something and just not finding Jesus right now. We do need to pray for her and pray God will open her eyes and quickly.
However, I do think she does some amazingly good things for people and inspired many to do great things for others as well. Her show has inspired me. I Tivo her show every day. If the show is about fitting yourself for a good bra, helping others, her favorite things, cleaning up your house or any show with Dr. Oz on it I watch it. If it is a topic I don't like I just delete it. I don't really want to hear her take on spiritual issues because I really feel she is misguided. On the flip side as Chrisitans we do need to be aware of what she is teaching though so we can know what is out there and how we can minister best to others.
I left this comment over at Life with Two Little Vikings when she posted about this video, and I still stand behind the comment:
I stopped watching Oprah when she started to blend and embrace different religions and began to accept things outside of the Biblical realm as truth. [a lot of her "faith" is based on new-agism]
I was so disappointed, because she has so much influence and power, she could have used it to go on and do great things in Jesus' name.
Instead, she has chosen to walk her own path with her own beliefs. At first, she was open about her faith in God, but as she became increasingly and wildly popular, she began to invite others on her show, and began to set God aside, and create her own religion that suited her needs.
As Christians, we need to be very, very careful that we do NOT compromise our beliefs, and that we do not cross over to other belief systems to "find what's easy for us" or "what sounds nicest."
And the whole Obama thing??? Frightening! I keep hearing more and more Christians refer to him as a snake in the grass. And ... "PEACE ALLIANCE???" They say that they are a "nonpartisan citizen action organization representing a growing constituency for peace" -- Yikes! You know what it reminds me of? One faith, one ruler. One currency. The Antichrist...
Scripture teaches us that the Antichrist will be a political, religious, individual... I personally think the Antichrist will leave the impression that his motivating force is love, concern for humanity, and pity for the oppressed, but what actually drives the Antichrist is not love but hatred... [by the way: Oprah is the one who pushed Obama into running for president and is also his biggest supporter, financially and otherwise, so it makes sense that he was included in this video clip]
Matthew 24:24 - For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.
I agree with you ... We are SO in the end times!
